Ok here’s the thing about babies and books. Teddy has a ton of books. Classics, new cool ones, gifts, one’s I’ve bought, etc. The problem is – most of them are made of REGULAR PAPER. From roughly age 3 months on (not sure when this well stop) Teddy has wanted nothing more than to rip them to shreds, which he has successfully done to several, sadly. On the other side of the coin, we have the soft “cloth” books – fun for small babies to claw and drool on, but not great to actually read.

So – I have invested more in board books. I can’t say enough good things about them – babies and tots LOVE being read to, they are basically indestructible, and all have cute stories that make it less painful for parents to read (over and over and over again). Here are some of Teddy’s (and my) absolute favorites.

Moo Baa La La La – By Sandra Boynton – all of her board books are a huge hit in our house, you can’t really go wrong with any of them. Teddy LOVES the animal sounds here and now that he is older, repeats them along with me.

Blue Hat, Green Hat – This is probably Teddy’s #1 favorite book. Another from Sandra Boynton. This one helps teach colors and is fun and quick to read.

The Boss Baby – This one is my husband Alex’s favorite. It tells the story of baby arriving to meet his parents as if he is the CEO of an organization. It’s very “real talk” about life with a newborn….culminating in the baby learning to say “Mama” and “Dada”.

The Quiet Book – The illustrations here are adorable, and I love the message. It’s more “thoughtful” than most baby books. It details different types of quiet a kid experiences (like when you parents are late to pick you up from school or you see the first snowfall of winter). When I read it to Teddy, I whisper the whole thing, which is a hit.

Peek-a-Boo – The rhymes in this book are particularly adorable. It follows a baby through his day and explores all the things he sees.  I like it’s “old timey” setting and Teddy loves when I shreak “PEEKABOO!” every other page.

The Gruffalo – Oh this story is so cute – this one is probably my favorite (with Peekaboo and The Quiet Book close seconds). It’s about a clever little mouse that invents a “Gruffalo” and tells all the forest creatures who want to eat him that the Gruffalo is protecting him – only to encounter the scary Gruffalo himself.
